Ivan Milat’s letter to his girlfriend, Chalinder Hughes, from Long Bay Jail. The spelling mistakes are his. Ivan spelled her name “Chalinda” and used to call her “Cylinder” because he couldn’t pronounce her name.
My dear Chalinda
Hi how are you. I am OK, as you know I got your letter yesterday don’t worry about what them people write as you said it is because the police are telling them I think it will be a while before it come’s out. We have to get our brief first, it would kick up a row if it did come out first.
I rang AB [Andrew Boe] this morning nothing much had changed so we are still on idle… I will be ringing you before you get this. Take note how this letter is folded I will talk to you on the phone. What are you looking at the librarys for it will only depress you unless AB wants something I know about police corruption and lies and how nothing happen’s to them, don’t worry about compensation either. Start writing a story about me take your time and keep it out of the way as you they would like to talk to you so write from when you first met me (I will never forget or regret it I regard it as one of the high’s of my life) I hope you can send a photo in just a small one will do…
I do miss you and love you but I don’t want you to miss out on life so you my love what ever you do I am glad I have met you
Love Ivan [heart] xxxxxxx
